Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, Soho is a vibrant neighborhood renowned for its art scene,...
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Waste Disposal Soho in relation to our operations and supply chains. It sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation in our business and among those who supply us with products and services.
Waste Disposal Soho provides commercial and residential waste collection, disposal and recycling services. Our activities rely on a network of suppliers, contractors and partners, including transport providers, equipment manufacturers and facilities operators. We recognise that the waste management sector, with its complex supply chains and reliance on third-party labour, can be exposed to risks of modern slavery. We are committed to ensuring that our services are delivered ethically and that everyone working within our operations and supply chain is treated with dignity and respect.
We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy to modern slavery and human trafficking. This applies to our own business, our employees, and all individuals and organisations that provide goods or services to Waste Disposal Soho. We will not knowingly work with any party that is involved in, or fails to take adequate steps to prevent, modern slavery or human rights abuses. Where credible concerns are raised, we will take prompt and decisive action, which may include suspending or terminating contracts, reporting matters to the authorities, and cooperating fully with any investigation.
Our stance on modern slavery is supported by internal policies on ethical conduct, recruitment, health and safety, whistleblowing and supplier management. These policies are communicated to all staff and form part of induction and periodic refresher training for relevant roles. Managers are responsible for promoting a culture in which exploitation is never tolerated and concerns can be safely raised. Senior leadership has ultimate accountability for overseeing our response to modern slavery risks and for ensuring that our controls remain effective.
We expect suppliers and contractors to uphold standards equivalent to our own. Before entering into or renewing relationships, we assess modern slavery risks by reviewing the nature of services provided, geographical location, labour practices and any available ethical certifications or audit reports. Our standard contractual terms require suppliers to comply with applicable labour, employment and human rights laws and to prohibit the use of forced, bonded or trafficked labour. We reserve the right to conduct audits, site visits and document checks where we consider the risk to be higher. These audits may include interviews with workers, review of payroll and working hours records, and verification of recruitment practices. If shortcomings are identified, we will work with the supplier on corrective action plans with clear time frames. Failure to implement improvements may lead to contract termination.
Everyone connected with Waste Disposal Soho, including employees, agency workers, contractors and suppliers, is encouraged to report any suspicion or evidence of modern slavery. Concerns can be raised directly with line managers, the HR team or a designated compliance contact. Reports can be made confidentially, and all information will be treated sensitively and, where possible, anonymously. We do not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith. All reports will be investigated promptly, and appropriate remedial and disciplinary action will be taken where necessary.
We provide training to relevant employees to help them recognise the signs of modern slavery and understand how to respond. This includes staff involved in procurement, contract management, site operations and recruitment. Training covers recognising indicators of exploitation, evaluating supplier risks, using reporting channels and applying our zero-tolerance policy in day-to-day decisions. We also seek to raise awareness among key suppliers by communicating our expectations and encouraging them to adopt similar standards within their own supply chains.
We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to tackling modern slavery. Our modern slavery controls, incident reports, training records and supplier assessments are monitored throughout the year. At least once annually, senior management conducts a formal review of this Statement and our related policies and procedures. The review considers changes in legislation, sector guidance, risk assessments and any issues raised through audits or whistleblowing channels. Where needed, we update our processes, strengthen contractual requirements and refine our training. This Statement reflects the position of Waste Disposal Soho for the most recent financial year and will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
